Family Dentistry
Winston-Salem, NC

At Kurt A. Gibson, DDS, PA, we pride ourselves on treating every member of the family. Family dentistry is focused on preventing potential complications, rather than treating them. If you and your family are in need of professional dental services, we can help!

Dental Cleanings

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends a routine check-up up roughly twice a year. A routine appointment with Dr. Kurt Gibson will typically include a professional cleaning and a detailed examination of your teeth, gums, and other oral tissues. We may also recommend an oral cancer screening for our older patients.

Dental Exams

Our team at Kurt A. Gibson, DDS, PA will help you every step of the way when you come visiting to have a dental exam performed on you. Our experts are highly skilled and have a great deal of experience, so you can rest assured that you are in safe hands with us.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Mouth Cancer is a rare but dangerous type of cancer that needs to be detected early to be curable. Regular oral cancer screening looks for any signs of cancer in your mouth. At Kurt A. Gibson, DDS, PA, we will carefully screen and examine your mouth to try and identify any signs of cancer. We are oral health experts who seek to ensure any issues you might have are dealt with in good time.

Dentistry for Kids

Professional dental care is a crucial part of your child's oral health. Be sure to schedule your child's first appointment by the time their first teeth erupt, or before their first birthday. Scheduling regular appointments allows us to monitor the development of their oral health. Developmental problems are easier to treat in the beginning stages.

As your child grows older, we can establish a strong foundation for their oral health, one that will ensure a lifetime of healthy, beautiful teeth.

Periodontal Care

Your periodontal (gum) tissues are just as important as your teeth. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States. Periodontal disease is the result of an infection in the gum tissues, connective ligaments, and eventually the alveolar bone.

The disease is characterized by gums that are swollen, red, and tend to bleed during brushing and flossing. Luckily, periodontal disease is easy to prevent and treat if it is caught early enough. If we notice signs of advanced periodontal disease, we may recommend a scaling and root planning procedure. The goal is to return your gums to a pink, healthy state.

Periodontal Maintenance

Among many other procedures, we also offer periodontal maintenance here at Kurt A. Gibson, DDS, PA. Periodontal maintenance is a term that describes therapy related to both diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease. This is a common procedure, which is not surprising as more than 40% of adults suffer from some type of periodontal disease. Gingivitis is the first stage of the disease, detected in red gums that bleed frequently. If the illness is not treated in the beginning, it can develop to periodontosis which causes serious dysfunction with the bones and gums that surround the teeth. The final stage of the disease may result in teeth loss.

Mouth Guards

If you participate in physical activities that put you at risk for dental trauma or injury, we strongly recommend a mouthguard. A mouth guard will protect your teeth and prevent dental emergencies. If you suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding), we may also recommend a night guard. Many patients with bruxism tend to grind their teeth during sleep. A night guard acts as a barrier that prevents enamel wear.

Night Guards

Night mouth guards are commonly used by people with teeth grinding problems. Teeth grinding is mainly a result of sleep apnea. People who suffer teeth grinding can easily injure themselves in the mouth while sleeping. Here at Kurt A. Gibson, DDS, PA, we offer tailor-made night mouth guard solutions for people with such challenges.

Invisalign® Clear Aligners

We offer clear aligners as a discrete alternative to traditional orthodontic treatments, such as braces. Aligner treatment involves a series of trays that gradually move your teeth to a more proper position. We often recommend clear aligners for adult patients who do not want their treatment to get in the way of their personal or professional life.

Sleep Apnea

If you have obstructive sleep apnea, you may benefit from an oral appliance. An oral appliance will keep your jaw in the proper position during sleep. This opens your airway and improves your breathing during sleep. With an oral appliance, you may find yourself feeling more well-rested, alert and happy, thanks to a full night's sleep.

Oral Appliance Therapy

Here at Kurt A. Gibson, DDS, PA, we can help you with all of your oral appliance therapy needs. With our years of experience and expert knowledge, we can meet the highest of standards where oral appliances are concerned.
